Rising to the Challenge
This year has tested our brains and souls.
We’ve endured an endless parade of the worst of human evil, manifested as acts of terror against innocent people. We’ve endured the wrath of our planet from Hurricane Harvey. And we endure the cowardly calculation, made by too many elected officials, to use fear as a tool to suppress dissent
and stay in power.
“Hope” seems so 2007. But it’s not.
Because of you, the Texas Civil Rights Project has been able to stand for human dignity. You have allowed us to fight for a government that is accountable to its people and for a Texas that is fair and just. Together, we have made a difference in this state so many of us call home.
We are part of a rising social justice movement in Texas. The movement is real and powerful because those who are currently in power see it too. And they are desperate to stop it.
As we get ready to carry the fight for rights to 2018, I wanted to take a moment to thank you and share with you just how much we have accomplished this past year.
From fighting to protect and expand voting rights, to advancing racial and economic justice, to reforming our broken criminal justice system, we could not have made such strides without you.
Texas IS changing. I know it. Those in power know it too. Thank you for being in the fight with us.
Mimi Marziani is the Executive Director of the Texas Civil Rights Project
